SLAMMED
my heart in the doorway of love;
it got bloodied and bruised.
I left it there.
It swelled
on the other side
of a reckoning
exacted
the price
no change
forthcoming.
The wrench
in my heart
knew from the start
that
our days
would be
fractions
of time,
our souls
out-numbered.
Glad, I knocked
anyway.
