Golfing at Kaneohe Klipper– Marine Base

It is no small feat to break 100

On this regulation course where our  Presidents play.

After three years, I still hadn’t done it.

Once I scored a 101 during a Tournament, alright twice.

On that day, I celebrated after scoring two chip-ins and one greenie.

It lasted all of five minutes.

The next woman got a little closer to the pin.

Competition was fierce.

My net score was a 69.

The game was announced as

Criers– which is fun for us duffers

Because you could revert three holes to par.

Changed at the last minute

by the Tournament Chair

to “Revert Two Holes to Par.”

One hole on the front nine

One hole on the back.

 In other words

The nine and the eight that I scored

Were reduced to a four and a five.

Throughout the round

Trade winds cooled.

Waves pounded.

Surfers surfed.

A flock of Iwa birds circled ponds where lilac lily pads floated.

Cloud trails left images overhead of giant white dimpled balls

circling first before dropping into four-inch holes  and

The folding cliffs of the Ko’olau mountain range tallied the score.

On this Thursday.

Ladies’ League Day when

All the stars lined up.

The moon was in Libra

Jupiter hugged Neptune.

And the golf god, Precept, smiled,

Revealing it was my turn to shine in this

Impossible game of skill and chance.
