Billy Collins Said

There’s a lot of staring involved.

You need to commit an act of literature.

Stick with a poem until it’s cooked.

Billy’s right, I need to bake brownies

Something for the Pen Women meeting on Thursday.

A bloke named Ghirardelli is whining from the pantry.

I invite him to sit with me as we both stare at the computer screen, and this is where the fun starts. Along with the first hunger pangs. Unlike Whim, who made a lot of idle promises, this one promises double chocolate filled with chips and no extra stuffing on the hips.

Phone home, Ghi, pronounced ghee, tell them you’re dining with a poet while

Feasting on words and phrases and staring at the screen like a mean queen of hearts.

Preheat the oven and prepare to lose control of the dial.

That’s right, smile.  We will go the extra mile with style.

Ghee nudges me. It’s been a solid five minutes.

The brownies aren’t going to bake themselves.

 Lightly grease the baking pan

Get out a bowl, and add the following:

Brownie Mix

¼ cup filtered water

1/3 cup Coconut Oil, that’s right, coconut, not canola.

1 organic pasture-raised egg

Stir until well blended.

Add mixture to pre-greased 8 x 8 glass pan. Bake for 43-48 minutes.

There are extra instructions for high altitudes, but we are in Florida.

We can see rocket launches from the Gulf Coast. The only mountains here are in my imagination. We can relax. Sit back and try a different mode of attack.

I smack my lips

Ruminate on freshly baked brownies, stacked on a creative plate. Munching late into the night, waiting for the next launch.
